Contact-sheet interlude

1 roll; 12 images; a choice to make.

The rodeo. A moment I very much looked forward to.

Despite all the familiar imagery we have in mind, I had no idea what to expect, really. And certainly not what kind of angles I’d get, what access I’d have —or wouldn’t have— to the scenes and the action.

Turns out, I managed to get close enough to the arena but, naturally, most of what happened in front of me had its back to me.

So be it. Instead of pure action, I’ll focus on the style and the gestures, both of which being key to the whole thing.

The lassos, the hats, the horses obviously, but more importantly, I want to capture the hands at work.

I liked the image #6 for the cross mark on the back of the hand that says “participant”. Also, the hand itself holding the rein.

Picture #8 had both the style and the lasso in it.

But eventually I picked the #11, which contains all I was looking for: the style, the horse, the lasso, and the gesture of a cowboy adjusting his hat.

If on top, I got the perfect spot of light into it…
